How To Choose Your Ring Size at Home

Finding the perfect ring size doesn't require a trip to a jeweller. With a few simple tools you likely already have at home, you can measure your finger accurately and shop with confidence.

The String Method

Cut a thin strip of paper or a piece of string approximately 10cm long. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you plan to wear the ring on — not too tight, but with no gaps. Mark where the paper or string overlaps, then lay it flat against a ruler. This measurement in millimetres is your finger's circumference.

Once you have that number, use a standard ring size chart to find your size.
As a guide:

  - Size G — approximately 46.8mm
  - Size L — approximately 51.9mm
  - Size P — approximately 57.2mm
  - Size T — approximately 62.1mm
  - Size V — approximately 64.6mm

A Few Tips to Get It Right

Your fingers change size throughout the day. They tend to be slightly larger in the evening and when warm, and smaller in the morning or cold weather. For the most accurate measurement, measure in the evening when your hands are at a normal temperature.

If you are between two sizes, it is generally better to size up slightly — a ring that is a little loose is easier to resize than one that is too tight.

For eternity rings, which sit snugly against the finger, it is worth going up half a size from your usual ring size to ensure comfortable everyday wear.

Already Own a Ring?

If you have a ring that fits well, you can measure its internal diameter with a ruler and match it to a size chart. Measure straight across the inside of the band at its widest point.
